The MES vice in action on a Dore Westbury Milling Machine. The problem associated with many commercially available machine vices is that they are very heavy, high from the table and offer a restrictive jaw movement. The Model Engineering Machine vice is a shallow bodied vice and has a large 5.5" capacity, much larger than many commercial vices. The moveable jaw is held captive by a long guide to prevent lifting when a heavy load is placed on the vice. The long 7/16" Whit. thrust screw is supplied finished. The cast iron body is machined for the jaw guide and is surface ground top and bottom, it has several sets of bolt down slots for matching up with a wide range of machine tables and configurations. The thrust nut is a gunmetal casting. Many of our customers build a matched pair of vices at the same time. This takes very little more time and increases drilling and milling machine versatility as it is then possible to hold long pieces of work parallel to the machine table with accuracy and security. All screws and dowel pins are supplied together with a set of dimensioned drawings and working instructions. |
