The Linisher working at the Castle Donnington M.E. Exhibition Click on the links to the left to get an enlarged image The Model Engineering Services Abrasive Band Machine is a serious metal remover. Do not confuse it with other machines that are built down to a price. This machine is a very versatile unit, the belt may be mounted vertically and used with an adjustable angled table as shown in the images, or the platen can be mounted horizontally with the work piece pressed down on top of the belt and up against a stop for producing flat surfaces . As well as used for fettling castings, shaping and metal removing, it can also be used to sharpen HSS lathe tools by tilting the table back to produce the correct front clearance and top rake. The machine can run up to a 2" band, the abrasive material being carborundum impregnated grit. A range of belts are available from 240 - 40 grit. The band runs at a speed of 3,500 - 4,000 ft/min and the recommended motor to power the machine is a 1/2 hp 3000 rpm fan cooled unit. The machine built from the basic kit can be mounted directly onto the bench and driven from a motor similarly mounted. For those constructors who desire a portable machine a cast ground base plate is available as an extra. All screws, dowel pins knobs and bar stock are supplied together with a set of dimensioned drawings and working instructions. Once you have experienced its metal wasting capacity you will wonder how you ever managed without it. It will increase output and save on filing! |
